Safety a key concern for judge candidates

Both candidates vying to sit as the district judge for Kingston and Edwardsville cite the safety of the community as a reason they want to serve in the position. Jim Haggerty, current mayor of Kingston, and Mamie Phillips, an assistant district attorney with the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office, will both appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots for the magisterial district judge seat in District 11-1-05, which covers Kingston and Edwardsville.

A father angered over “sext” messages his daughter received on Facebook was sentenced to serve up to 23 months in jail after luring her suitor to Kirby Park and beating him and another man severely enough to send them to a hospital. William J. Hagenbaugh IV, 36, of 19 Green St., Edwardsville, was sentenced to nine to 23 months in the Luzerne County Correctional Center after previously pleading guilty to charges of robbery and simple assault.

Christine Elizabeth Jasnoski, 36, is accused of snatching Luzerne County Judge Lesa Gelb's Coach brand wallet and then spending more than $60 using a credit card, which she also used to try getting cash.
